In addition to being nominated for best jazz vocalist at the Scottish Jazz Awards in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, Ali won the award in 2014, and that same year she was nominated as 'Best Emerging artist ' and for the 'Best Jazz Album'.
Early jazz historian, Ali has earned her solid reputation as the quintessential ‘go to’ vocalist for authentic trad Jazz / prohibition era blues and as she is also an American and a swing dancer, Ali is uniquely placed to deliver this music with authority.
At the GSX Friday Night Party this year.”, Ali brings together her unique line up of top jazz musicians from across Europe and the UK. This collective will bring us a variety of music perfect for Lindy Hop, Balboa & Shag, delivering that dynamic dance floor GSX promises!
We are so lucky to have a number of incredible jazz musicians across the Central belt of Scotland, and we are delighted to announce that Colin Steele's Kings of Swing will be kicking off the weekend for our Friday night party!
Trumpeter Colin Steele has pulled together a stellar line up of Scotland's top swing jazz musicians who will be focused on bringing you the swingingest dance tunes around from the 30's and 40's. With decades of experience between them, the band has an enormous repertoire and will warmly welcome tune requests, so if you long to lindy hop or are a beast at balboa please let them know and they'll happily oblige!
Colin is joined in the 2 horn front line by Martin Foster (clarinet/saxophone) and together with Campbell Normand (piano), Roy Percy (bass), and Jim Drummond (drums), they'll be serving up the very finest swinging jazz played with panache, vibrancy, and freshness!
Returning to GSX for a second time, we are thrilled to have The Trad Rags Trio join us again in 2026 for our Saturday Fast Feet Brunch!!
The Trad Rags Trio: Simon Toner on double bass, Mike Kearney on piano and vocals and Paddy Darley on trombone.
Three of Scotland’s best early jazz specialists come together to create The Trad Rags Trio. These musicians have been instrumental in the success of Scottish Jazz Awards Best Jazz Band 2022, Tenement Jazz Band.
Trad Rags Trio takes the old ragtime rhythm-section sound with piano and double bass, leaving plenty of room for Paddy’s Kid Ory stylings in the trombone, from barks to songbird melodies; and Mike’s characterful collection of songs.
Our Sunday night after party has an ‘anything goes’ vibe when it comes to the music. While still including plenty of swing, we like to expand the musical genre a touch at our last party, which is why Baby Face and the Beltin’ Boys are the perfect band to deliver their eclectic array of swing, country, rhythm & blues and gospel. BBB are a home-grown Glasgow collective that have been bringing their talent to Glasgow and beyond for the past decade, including plenty of swing dance-specific events. Be prepared for lots of fun and a little of the unexpected too!
Join us on the Sunday afternoon of GSX for a relaxed tea dance with music from the Jack Heavenor Quartet!
Jack Heavenor is a Glasgow-based jazz vocalist and clarinettist delivering straight-ahead swing from the 1930s and 40s. With a wide repertoire of classic dance tunes and a strong feel for the floor, his sets balance relaxed swing, upbeat favourites, and plenty of momentum for social dancers.
Jack and his Quartet have provided great music for the dancers of Glasgow, and it's time for all of you to enjoy it too!
